TRAINING


Emmarentia Dam provides a very safe training environment. It provides security to all new sailors by providing enough water to thoroughly learn boat handling skills.

The Club provides sail training tuition to adults and children using a range of club boats.

Prerequisite ExperienceThe sailing courses are graded in difficulty to allow progression, building on the preceding level.

Minimum ageClasses are grouped by age:
  • Kids 8 to below 12 years.
  • Adult/Teen above 12 years.
Activities are matched to the age group to maintain interest.
Held when
  • Training sessions are by arrangement.
  • To manage the variability of the Highveld wind, proceed as follows:
    • Make a booking for a weekend day - 5-3 days prior to the weekend by contacting the Instructor
    • Instructor will check wind forecast for 5-10 knots (10-20km/h) wind – Sailing is best done with wind
    • Instructor will make a tentative placement matching candidate experience and forecast wind - Sail in the right wind
    • 24 hours before agreed date confirm with instructor that training session is feasible based on recent wind forecast – Ensure the wind is right to sail in.
  • Arrive at agreed time (typically between 09:30-10:00) with kit.
  • Finish Time 13:00 – 14:00 or as agreed with instructor subject to wind.
  • Enjoy the day learning to sail.
DurationCourse duration varies depending on course grade - check the requirements for each course level. Each course builds on the preceding course assuming a given proficiency.
Course costR150 per hour per person.

Course NotesAll sailing boat and safety equipment will be supplied.
Students under 9 must be accompanied by a parent or adult sibling
